Come out to our "Third Saturday's" Afternoon Speaker Series as we welcome a local Purple Martin expert, John Miller. You will learn about the long history of the relationships between humans and purple martins, which are totally dependent on human-provided housing. Miller will also discuss martin biology, migration, habitat, and basic information about steps involved to attract these swallows to new housing.
Then, Join Audubon staff and volunteers in assembling purple martin gourds for nesting at Riverlands in 2020.
John Miller Bio:
Volunteer, Purple Martin Conservation Association (PMCA), for over a decade, has managed colonies of purple martins at Forest Park, Missouri Botanical Garden, and Cahokia Mounds. He was instrumental in securing a donation of martin housing at Riverlands. He's had a life-long interest in Purple Martins and writes for Purple Martin Update, the magazine of the PMCA, and gives talks and field day presentations on martins in the St. Louis region.
