Celebrate the reopening of our trails at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary with an all-day nature-filled extravaganza! Trails are closed each year from October 15th through April 15th for winter refuge season. Activities at the Trail Reopening will include guided hikes, kid-friendly outdoor activities, interpretive trails, nature exploration opportunities, fun crafts, and more!
This free, family friendly event has something for everyone, all focused on exploring the great outdoors! There will be guided Bird Hikes as well as guided Natural History hikes along Two Pecan Trail. Explore the unique ecosystems at Riverlands with self-guided activities along trails at Heron Pond and Ellis Island. Our Nature Exploration Area will teach you how to read natures signs. Crafts will include pinecone bird feeders and nature journaling to help you connect with nature in your own backyard!
We will have all this and even more, with opportunities to learn about insects, prairie restoration, wetland ecology, and the Mississippi River.
All activities are free (and fun!). For more information, call the Audubon Center at Riverlands at (636) 899-0090 or visit the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary at 301 Riverlands Way Alton, IL 63386.
