All About Purple Martins

May 11, 2019 - West Alton, MO

During this engaging presentation with local Purple Martin expert, John Miller, you will learn about the long history of the relationship between humans and purple martins, which are totally dependent on human-provided housing. Miller will also discuss martin biology, migration, habitat, and basic information about steps involved to attract these swallows to new housing.

John Miller Bio: Volunteer, Purple Martin Conservation Association (PMCA), for over a decade has managed colonies of purple martins at Forest Park, Missouri Botancial Garden, Cahokia Mounds. He was instrumental in securing a donation of martin housing at Riverland. He's had a life-long interest in Purple Martins and writes for Purple Martin Update, the magazine of the PMCA, and gives talks and field day presentation on martins in the St. Louis area and regionally.
